We get a new beta version every year, for us to test for Autodesk FOR FREE (actually, we have to pay just to be the 'beta testers'), which of course is labeled a 'new release'. We get stuff moved to a different toolbar, or toolbars go away, or palettes become a thing. We get renamed commands, with slightly different functionality. So now, instead of getting a more efficient software from one release to the next, we get more and more bloat to navigate through. Autodesk stopped thinking about productivity to focus on functionality. They're concerned with whether I'm productive enough.Īnd that is the rub. Y'all probably don't want to hear what I'd tell my bosses if they asked me how I felt about moving to a different software, because they don't actually care what the software costs. I shouldn't have to be creating catalog info for 50% of all the components I use at this company, but there ya go. Sure, I can add new items and footprints to the catalog.but those are good examples of how the software makes me work too hard. I feel like I have to work harder than I should, in order to be able to use this software. You should all be very concerned about this.

But if you put your ear to the ground here in the forums, you'll come away with the impression that very few of us are recommending the continued use of this software to our bosses.

The vast majority of users of ACADE don't get to choose what software they use. Every manufacturer in the ACADE catalog has expanded their offerings since first inclusion, yet the catalog remains largely the same as it always has. Neither was wireless communication between devices and panels. Intrinsic Safety wasn't much of a thing yet when ACADE was still in its diapers. We design lots of stuff that has to be intrinsically safe, and I have to make everything for these projects, from footprints to catalog entries. There are whole categories of components that could be added. There are many products in it that are now obsolete, and there are just as many (probably more) products that it should have but doesn't. The existing catalog IS woefully out of date. There are literally dozens of posts about this, although most get hijacked to speak about other software or to denigrate Autodesk for what many see as a lack of diligence on its part.

Jon, I'd like to add that for anyone who's on this forum a lot, the current state of the catalog information in ACADE is a MAJOR MAJOR issue.
